Cailean has joined J+S Subsea on a full-time basis after a successful part-time period whilst completing his Mechanical Engineering college course at North East Scotland College. Cailean was initially meant to start in 2020 as part of his school’s work placement program but unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions this program had to be cancelled.
Following our management buy-out at the end of 2020 the new company board agreed that they would carry out the program anyway so that Cailean did not miss out on this opportunity. This was arranged in agreement with Cailean’s school and family and took place in July 2021.
With some excellent feedback from all departments after his 2-week stint at J+S Subsea, Cailean was provided with a Letter of Recommendation for future employers.
In 2022 Cailean approached J+S Subsea to ask if the company would be willing to provide him with part-time employment whilst he studied Mechanical Engineering at North East Scotland College. An open ended ‘Zero Hours’ contract was arranged allowing Cailean to work whatever days and hours suited his college timetable.
Nearing completion of his college course in 2023 Cailean advised J+S Subsea that he wanted to continue working with us rather than seek an apprenticeship elsewhere. Once he completed his course and on turning 18 the company decided that it was not suitable that he continued on a ‘Zero Hours’ contract basis so the company offered him a full-time position as a workshop assistant. This is credit to Caileans attitude and quality of work.
J+S Subsea are excited to invest into Caileans future. He will continue to support our Logistics and Operations departments with the long-term goal of him becoming a fully trained Subsea Control System Technician.
